professional Rugby League, AFL and Rugby Union around the world while maintaining an active involvement in elite sport through positions as the Sports Science Coordinator at the Brisbane Lions and Director of Athletic Performance at the Gold Coast Titans. Dr Mac’s education background includes a PhD in Exercise and Sports Science & Strength and Conditioning, a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy, a Bachelor of Exercise Science and industry related Fitness qualifications. Dr McLellan is also a nationally and internationally accredited Olympic Weightlifting Coach, Sports Power Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coach. His research areas of interest include acute and chronic adaptation to strength and power training, physique science, hormonal adaptation to blunt force trauma and collision during contact sports, sports nutrition and performance enhancement strategies incorporating environmental extremes.

Gary Slater PhD

Gary Slater-02Gary is a sports performance focused dietitian and sports physiologist who has been working in elite sport since 1996. He has a passion for helping athletes achieve their sporting ambitions, including those aspiring for Commonwealth & Olympic Games success. Gary currently splits his time between coordinating a Master’s Degree in Sports Nutrition at the University of the Sunshine Coast and his role as National Performance Nutrition Coordinator for the Australian Rugby Union. When he’s not surfing or undertaking case studies on himself in the gym, Gary also consults to professional teams, including the QLD Reds and Brisbane Lions, sports supplement companies and an array of individual elite & recreational athletes, focusing on performance driven nutrition strategies that get results. Gary’s professional interests relate primarily to enhancing sports performance, helping athletes achieve their sporting dreams. Gary is particularly passionate about factors influencing muscle protein metabolism and muscle hypertrophy/ atrophy, nutritional recovery strategies, ergogenic aids and the influence of body composition on sports performance. Gary’s focus remains with using the latest scientific information to help athletes achieve their best. He delivers this through a number of innovative mediums to ensure the athletes he works with can focus on what works, leaving the hype associated with the latest dietary fad for others to worry about. This ensures those that work with Gary can be 100% confident in their nutrition strategies.

Damian Marsh – BHMS (Hons)Strength & Conditioning Coach
Damian MarshDamian is one of the leading Strength and Conditioning coaches in Australia with over 20 years experience in the sport, health & fitness industry. He has worked with professional sporting teams for 15 years including the Brumbies and Reds Super Rugby Teams of which he was Athletic Performance Director. Damian has physically prepared teams in three Super Rugby Championships
(Brumbies 2001, 2004; Reds 2011). Internationally Damian has carried out Strength and Conditioning duties with the Australian U21 (2002-2004) and Australia A Rugby Teams (2006-2007) He is regard highly within the Strength and Conditioning profession for his knowledge and experience in training and preparation of elite athletes.

Damian received a first class honours degree in Human Movement Studies and is an accredited Exercise Physiologist and Sport Scientist with Exercise Sports Science Australia (ESSA). He has completed a Diploma of Sports Nutrition with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is a certified Sports Nutrition Specialist with the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN).

Nick Poulos M.Ex.Sc (Strength & Conditioning), B.Ap.Sc (Exercise and Coaching)
Nick is the Physical Performance Manager with the Australian 7’s Mens Rugby team. Previously the Physical Performance Manager at the Adelaide Crows AFL team, physical performance coordinator with the Toyota Rugby Union team in Japan, Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union – NSW, the Tongan Rugby Union for the 2003 RWC campaign, Nick was also employed in Qatar as the senior/lead strength and conditioning coach for athletics in ASPIRE, Qatar’s Academy for Sports Excellence for nearly 4 years. Nick has also consulted with a number of organisations internationally including NZ & Japan and oversaw the strength and power programs for 3 Olympic track and field athletes (Brazil and Ecuador) in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics.

Nick is currently undertaking a PhD in Exercise Science with Edith Cowan University.

Kerry O’Bryan
Kerry has a broad range of experience within the health, fitness and sporting industries. He is a qualified Personal trainer and has completed a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science and is currently completing a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics. Kerry is a state level weightlifting/sports power coach and level 1 strength and conditioning coach. Industry experience includes a diverse mix of private studio, commercial gymnasium, exclusive weight loss retreat and professional rugby league experience as an assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and rehabilitation coordinator role with Gold Coast Titans for the past 4 years.
